Need access to your student’s information?
In keeping with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a parent or guardian must be explicitly authorized by their student to receive access to information such as:
- Educational records
- Registration status
- Class schedule
- Room and board
- Financial aid
- Billing information
There are a few different ways your student can give you access. Learn more in the links below.
Answers to Your Most Common FAFSA Questions
The FAFSA process can be overwhelming. We're here to help! Loyola’s Director of Financial Aid Anna Daigle answers some of the most frequently asked questions.
Does my student need to complete a FAFSA every year?
Yes, each year your student must complete a new FAFSA. The student will receive reminders from FAFSA to renew their FAFSA after October 1 of each year. The renewal FAFSA will come prepopulated with some of the same information provided on the first FAFSA to help ease the financial aid renewal process.
Should I still complete the FAFSA if I know I won't qualify for anything but loans?
Yes, always apply even if you don’t think your student will be eligible. You don’t want to assume anything and miss out on opportunities for assistance. This could be helpful in determining eligibility for any available institutional need-based aid. Or, if some extenuating circumstance (loss of job, death, hospitalization) happens during the year, then we will already have your student’s FAFSA on file to try to help your family through this challenging situation.
What if my family’s situation has changed significantly?
Please let us know after you have filed your 2022 Federal Income Tax with the IRS. Our staff will provide more information at that time on how to request a FAFSA appeal to address changes such as loss/decrease in income, extreme medical expenses, change in marital status, etc.
After completing the FAFSA when will I hear about financial aid?
Continuing students should start receiving award notifications in late May 2023. We strongly recommend all students check their student email regularly for updates. For one-on-one support, reach out to our office at 504-865-3231, email email@example.com, or book an appointment.
