Brian C. Barnes came to Loyola in 2010 to assume the role of Deputy Director of the Law Library. In 2013, he was appointed as Interim Law Library Director and assumed the role permanently in 2017. He is active in the American Association of Law Libraries, has served as President of the New Orleans Association of Law Libraries and the Central Mississippi Library Council, and was Editor of the Southeastern Chapter American Association of Law Libraries (SEAALL) Newsletter for four years. Professor Barnes teaches in the Loyola skills program, has presented at CLE's by NBI, Loyola New Orleans, Mississippi College, and the Mississippi Prosecutor's Conference, has presented at conferences including the SEAALL Annual Conference and the Southwestern Association of Law Libraries (SWALL) Annual Conference, has taught Legal Research for five years, and does guest lectures as requested by faculty.
He is licensed to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern & Southern Districts of Mississippi, and all state courts in Alabama and Mississippi. Before coming to Loyola University New Orleans Professor Barnes was the Research, Instructional Services, and Circulation Librarian at Mississippi College School of Law.
